After a hearty breakfast in the dining hall, the day’s activities begin. Scouts can choose from a wide array of merit badge classes, tailoring their experience to their interests and goals.


  • Automotive Maintenance: Dive under the hood to learn the basics of car care, from oil changes to brake inspections, with hands-on instruction.

  • Photography: Capture the beauty of Wehinahpay’s scenic vistas while honing camera skills, including composition and editing techniques.

  • Map Reading and Orienteering: Navigate the wilderness with confidence, mastering compass skills and map interpretation—essential for any Scout.

  • Hiking: Explore the camp’s trails while learning about trail safety, leave-no-trace principles, and the art of pacing yourself on rugged terrain.


Classes are interactive and immersive, taught by knowledgeable instructors who bring the subjects to life while fostering a love for the outdoors.


Choose Your Own Adventure

Once a week at Wehinahpay Scouts are encourage to explore. Scouts might spend time practicing archery or scaling the climbing wall. Others might relax by Crystal Lake, sketching hummingbirds that flit and dart among the flowers. These feathered friends are a special feature of Wehinahpay—watching them is a reminder of the simple joys of nature.


Outside the camp, discover breathtaking attractions like White Sands National Park and Carlsbad Caverns. White Sands features expansive gypsum sand dunes spanning 275 square miles, with dunes up to 60 feet high, perfect for hiking, sledding, and photography. Carlsbad Caverns offers one of the world's largest cave systems, with over 119 caves, including the Big Room, a massive chamber with stunning geological formations. Visitors can enjoy guided tours and the evening bat flight. The region also offers diverse ecosystems, rich cultural history, and outdoor adventures, from mountains to deserts, inviting endless exploration and discovery.


Relaxation and Camaraderie

As the sun sets, the camp comes alive with the glow of campfires and the hum of laughter and conversation. Gather around the fire to share stories, roast marshmallows, and reflect on the day’s adventures.
